  1. Your photography has been the authentic real deal for as long as I’ve known about it (since 1989). It always a treat to see what you’ve been doing. I hope you feel as much satisfaction as you deserve to.

    • Dear Stephen,
Thank you so much for your very kind comments. They mean a lot to me. I am still only shooting with film(and Poloroid) because I find it so much more beautiful. Also no Photoshop because I believe in the power of reality. You cannot imagine how difficult it now is to continue to do what I believe in. I am really being given a hard time by magazines.

  2. Well life seems to be full of compromises, but I can tell from your work you already know that.

  3. I should clarify; your work is uncompromising but you observe the compromises of life. I was referring off handedly to just one, digital vs’s film.

  6. Dear Mary Ellen,
Hello, my name is Jessica Kieffer and I was raised in Kentucky. I’m currently a student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for scene painting and one of our assignments was to email someone who inspires us with their art. I wanted to reach you though email but I can’t find your email so I’m hoping I will be able to reach you though this website. In high school I took a photography class and we watched Streetwise and studied your photography and I was amazed! I love the fact that your don’t use digital cameras or photoshop in your photos. In art history we have to pick an artist and one of their works and I picked you and your document on Streetwise. I just wanted to thank you for making me fall in love with photography! I really admire you work and would love to talk to you about it and want your currently working on.

    Thank You,
    Jessica Kieffer

  8. Hi Mary Ellen,

I took a black and white photo of you in Pagsanjan Laguna, Philippines on the set of Apocalypse Now, which you helped set up for me. I hand colored it and now want to use it on my new website. I am an oil painter but have a photograph tab.

Please let me know how I might send it to you for a release to place it on my site.

    Thanking you in advance.
